Joel Tucker has been featured in various local and national publications for his guitar playing, including NUVO, The Indianapolis Star and Downbeat magazine.  He is an active performer with The Tucker Brothers Group, Clint Breeze and The Groove, Eliot Bigger, and Prime Vintage, among other projects.  In 2016, Joel was a featured artist during the Indy Jazz Fest tribute to Wes Montgomery, where he played alongside guitarists Pat Martino, Peter Bernstein, Russell Malone, and Bobby Broom.  He has also shared the stage with notable artists such as  Chris Potter, Randy Brecker, APA finalist Zach Lapidus, and APA winner Sullivan Fortner.  Joel has traveled around the United States and abroad with various group, but most notably Ritmos Unidos led by Michael Spiro for performances as well as clinics centered around the progression of the jazz tradition. 

 

After graduating from Indiana University in 2012, Joel moved to Indianapolis, IN, and quickly made a professional name for himself as a working musician.  Since then, Joel has been featured as a side man on 12 different albums exemplifying his extensive versatility on the guitar.  The albums he is featured on range from contemporary jazz, straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz, post rock, shoegaze, and hip hop.  In 2015, Joel was recognized as a semi-finalist in the Wes Montgomery International Jazz Guitar competition.  In the same year, Joel and his brother (Nick Tucker) released their debut album entitled Nine Is The Magic Number that showcased original music written by the brothers.  This was the beginning of the Tucker Brothers Group.  In 2017, Joel received the Amplify Indy grant from Musical Family Tree which funded his second album as a leader Writing Prompts.  In the summer of 2017, prior to the release of Writing Prompts, Joel was a featured soloist at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland and at the Imperial Palace in Annecy, France.

The third release by the Tucker Brothers, Two Parts, has gained them national and international attention and features guest artists Elena Escudero, Ellie Pruneau, Amanda Gardier, and Walter Smith III.

Their most recent release "Live at Chatterbox Tavern" has also gained them attention, both locally and globally.

 

Joel and Nick play at the Chatterbox on Massachusetts Ave. (Indianapolis, IN) every Wednesday night from 8:00 to 10:30 p.m., treating audiences to jazz standards and original compositions of their own.  Joel is the Lecturer of Guitar at Ball State University and is available for private lessons.

Joel is available for solo performances, private parties, festivals, and educational opportunities.
